Tessellations: How to Create Them

( 23:21 )

Jim McNeill introduces basic tessellation concepts and examples of historic tessellations as well as examples of his own tessellations. He then presents a step-by-step demonstration creating simple tessellations with cut paper. The three types of tessellations shown include translation, rotation, and reflection. He makes a template, traces the tessellations on large pieces of paper, and then cuts, glues the shapes, and decorates the final design. Examples of student work are also shown.
